Devotees descended upon Kot Mithan, Rajanpur on Tuesday to observe the 113th death celebrations (Urs) of famous sufi poet and saint, Khawaja Ghulam Fareed started in in district rajan pur.
Current successor Khawaja Mueenuddin Koreja gave the saint’s mausoleum a bath with thousands of liters of rose water. Talking to The Express Tribune, he said that in this age of intolerance, the message of the saint that all living beings have the right to live as per their own desires without any discrimination, remained valid.
Strict security measures have been undertaken given the current wave of terrorist attacks on mausoleums. DPO Rajanpur Rana Ahmed Hassan told The Express Tribune that 100 police personnel have been deputed to ensure the security of devotees from all over Pakistan.
Khawaj Ghulam Fareed (1845-1901) is famous for his Seraiki poetry and for his music. Khwaja Mueenuddin said that the saint maintained poetry as a mirror of the society. Developing and preferring art and culture as a means for society’s progress.
Khwaja Ghulam Fareed was a Chishti-Nizami mystic and Patron saint of the Punjab. While he was born and later died at Chacharan Sharif, he was buried at Kot Mithan
He knew Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Sindhi, Panjabi, Braj Bhasha, and Seraiki. Though he primarily wrote in Seraiki and Urdu, he also wrote some poems in Sindhi, Persian, and Braj Bhasha. He opposed British rule in Bahawalpur.
