PESHAWAR:

To reverse insecurity in Pakistan and Afghanistan, it is important for the media to facilitate peace and dialogue between the two countries.

This was said by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar during a conference on ‘Cross-border Media: Strengthening Peace and Dialogue’ held at the University of Peshawar (UoP) on Monday.

The governor called for taking the Afghans on board in resolving issues, saying that peace and development in Afghanistan cannot be achieved without implementing a solution acceptable to them. “External interference in Afghanistan is increasing with the passage of time, which is causing instability in the country and creating immense problems for people.”

Speakers highlighted the cordial relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which have deep roots in history and culture. They also highlighted the difficulties faced by journalists in tribal areas, such as insecurity and lack of access to information.

Tribal Union of Journalists’ President Safdar Hayat Dawar, Peshawar Press Club President Saiful Islam Safi and UoP Vice Chancellor Dr Azmat Hayat Khan also spoke on the occasion.
