No more second chances for Rani

KARACHI:

The bubbly, young and energetic girl, who started her career with films like Ghulam (which was instantly popular for its song “Aati Kya Khandala”) and the mega hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (playing Shahrukh Khan’s college crush), now feels out of place in the same industry that welcomed her with open arms when she was younger.

Despite having an interesting mix of commercially and critically acclaimed films such as Black and Hum Tum to her credit, Rani Mukerji, the multiple award-winning actor, seems to have lucked out in the past few years. Her recent roles — as a feisty cricket-crazy Punjabi girl in Dil Bole Hadippa, the wife of a racer (Saif Ali Khan) in Ta Ra Rum Pum and a call girl in Laaga Chunri Mein Daag — all seemed to be rather desperate attempts to make her presence felt.

However, despite all these setbacks, the actor doesn’t have an ounce self-doubt and her role of a blind and deaf girl in Black is testimony of what she is capable of doing. She will now be seen in Aamir Khan’s upcoming film, Talaash, which is directed by critically acclaimed film-maker Reema Kagti and co-produced by Excel Entertainment. The film stars Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Mukerji herself in the lead roles.

The trailer of the suspense thriller, which was released recently, looks promising. Although, Mukerji doesn’t look any different in her typical sari-clad look, the film, scheduled to be released in June this year, is definitely one of the most anticipated releases of this year.

@Indi-Pop: I am a fan of Rani as well. But between 2007 and 2010 she has not had a hit. Nor has she been signed against an A grade hero (Shah Rukh, Amir, Salman, Hrithik, Akshay) ever since the news about her and Aditya has leaked out. She herself has complained that her career has been adversely impacted due to those rumours.. So this time working with Amir is definitely a great 2nd opportunity for her and I am really glad she is getting it.

Dude, she just won Best Actor(female) in a supporting role at this year's Filmfare awards for her brilliant performance as a tv journalist in No One Killed Jessica. She is doing very well for herself choosing powerful roles which do justice to her immense talent. You can't expect her to play a college girl at her age, can you?
