Job regularisation: NADRA employees protest continue
100 employees of NADRA are waiting to be made permanent since 2008.
GILGIT:
Dozens of employees of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) protested outside the Gilgit Press Club on Thursday, demanding regularisation of services.
“We want implementation of the notification issued by October,” said a NADRA employee. More than 100 employees have been performing their duties across Gilgit-Baltistan since 2010 but none of them has been made permanent. The demonstration was part of the protests launched by NADRA employees all over the country.
Tahir Mehmood, a protestor, told media that during 2008, the prime minister had announced that their services would be made permanent. He also referred to Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s statement in which he had promised regularisation of staff services.
The protestors showed the copy of a notification issued to media by the NADRA chairman in October 2011 that read that services of all NADRA employees would be regularised.
While expressing solidarity with the employees, a lawmaker from Ghizer valley, Nawaz Khan Naji vowed to raise the issue in the assembly, an assurance that led to peaceful dispersal of the protestors.
