Pakistan through to second round

Pakistan outclassed Japan 3-0 in the opening tie of the Men’s World Junior Squash Championship 2010 team event.

Pakistan outclassed Japan 3-0 in the opening tie of the Men’s World Junior Squash Championship 2010 team event in Quito, Ecuador to qualify for the second round.

Waqas Sharif comfortably defeated Taiko Kaiodo 11-7, 11-4, 11- 1 in less than 30 minutes while Pakistan’s junior top-seed Danish Atlas brushed aside Ryosei Kobayashi 11-4, 11-2, 11-6 as Pakistan got off to a winning start in its title-defence.

Nasir Iqbal then ensured the clean sweep as he beat Tomotaka Endo 11-4, 11-5, 11-8 in the last team event match.


Pakistan, who are in pool B and seeded second among 24 countries, will now play Colombo in their last match before the start of the second round.

“Pakistan’s biggest rivals are Egypt,” team manager Irfan Asghar Ali told The Express Tribune. “But players have been trained enough and can at least win the team title.”

Meanwhile, India defeated hosts Ecuador 3-0 while Colombo also defeated Japan 2-0 to be sure of a second-round place. Top-seed Egypt and England also progressed to the next round.
