40-day fasting: Special prayers held to mark Lent
A Christian fast is for 24 hours and believers who keep the fast do not eat or drink during this time.
LAHORE:
Ash Wednesday was observed at churches across Lahore to mark the start of 40-day Lent. Pastor Shahid Miraj said that Wednesday was the first fast of the Lent and special prayers were held at the churches.
“The day is called so as believers make a cross with ash on their foreheads after the prayers as the first fast ends,” he explained. A Christian fast is for 24 hours and believers who keep the fast do not eat or drink during this time. Some people have a false perception that uncooked food can be eaten. The Lent will end on April 8 with the celebrations of Easter.
