Gone with the jewels: National Highway blocked in protest against robbery

The protest turned into a brawl between the protesters and drivers, who were agitated by the blockade at the highway.

HYDERABAD:

Jewellery worth Rs7 million and cash were allegedly stolen from the house of a former additional commissioner, Taj Pathan, after a break-in on Tuesday.

Taj’s family and neighbours protested against the robbery and blocked the National Highway for two hours. The protest turned into a brawl between the protesters and drivers, who were agitated by the blockade at the highway.

As the drivers resorted to aerial firing, the police arrived at the site and took control of the situation.

Taj criticised the police for a delayed response to both the robbery and the brawl.

Taj said that four robbers locked him and his family in a room after taking their mobile phones and stole the money and jewellery that had been arranged for his son’s wedding in April. He has filed an FIR in the Bhitai Nagar police station against unidentified persons.
