The Hala police came under attack after it rescued two girls from being poisoned by relatives in Saeed Khan Laghari village in Matiari district on Tuesday.

Cousins Majida Laghari, 21, and Saira Laghari, 20, were to become victims of ‘honour killing’. A relative informed the police who raided their house. Majida was shifted to a hospital in serious condition while Saira was taken to the police station.

Saira said their relatives wanted them to marry two secondary school students but they refused.

On being thwarted by the police, their male cousins pelted the police station with stones and thrashed the policemen inside it with sticks, injuring the SHO and two other policemen. Police identified the attackers as Irshad Laghari, Majid Laghari and Dost Laghari, who were also nominated in the FIR by Saira for poisoning her and Majida.
