An explosion tore through a polling station in the southern Yemeni city of Aden on Monday and gunfire was heard shortly after the blast, an official said, a day before an election to replace Ali Abdullah Saleh, Yemen’s ruler for three decades.

No casualties were reported.

“The explosion caused a big hole in the building’s wall and shattered the window glass of nearby houses,” the official said.

Millions of Yemenis will vote on Tuesday in a poll in which Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi is standing as the only candidate, after a year of protests and civil unrest.
