BPL: Chanderpaul guides Bengals home

Hits unbeaten 87 in seven-wicket win over Dhaka in BPL.

A 75-ball 87 by West Indian Shivnarine Chanderpaul ensured Khulna Royal Bengals cruised home to a seven-wicket win over Dhaka Gladiators in their Bangladesh Premier League clash.

Chasing 141 for victory, Chanderpaul combined with Shakibal Hasan (39) to guide his team past the finish line. Chanderpaul’s knock included 11 boundaries and a six as he added 94 for the third wicket with Shakib after early breakthroughs by Dhaka had seen Bengals being reduced to 15 for two.

Mashrafe Murtaza, Azhar Mahmood and Mosharraf Hossain picked up a wicket apiece for Dhaka.

Earlier, a disciplined show by Bengals restricted Dhaka to 140 for eight despite a 42-ball 53 by Mohamamad Ashraful. Sanath Jayasuria snared two scalps for Bengals.

Elsewhere, Sylhet Royals were consigned to yet another defeat as Barisal Burners prevailed by nine wickets. Openers Ahmed Shahzad and Brad Hodge shared a 116-run partnership that helped Burners overhaul Royals’ 120 for seven. Shahzad scored 60 with the help of three boundaries and five sixes, while Hodge hit 54 as Royals struggled to contain the free-scoring duo.

Earlier, Suhrawardy Shuvo’s three-wicket haul restricted Royals to a below-par total. Sohail Tanvir top-scored with 33 for Royals.
