New IG demands corruption-free force

New provincial police chief said that all available resources would be utilised to combat crime and terrorism.

The police must be rid of corruption so they can concentrate on fighting crime and terrorism, Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police Mohammad Habibur Rehman told reporters at a reception in honour of his appointment at Police Headquarters on Saturday.


The new provincial police chief said that all available resources would be utilised to combat crime and terrorism. He said that he would not tolerate negligence, carelessness or cowardice by members of the police force. He said that police investigation wings throughout the Punjab would be modernised and investigators taught scientific methods of collecting evidence at the crime scene. Additional IG Chaudhry Tanvir and DIG (Headquarters) Mohammad Tahir welcomed the new IG at PHQ. Rehman, who has served as IG in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, replaced Javed Iqbal as IG.

Transfers

The new IG transferred three police officers on Saturday. Fayyaz Ahmad, commander of Battalion Number 7 of the Punjab Constabulary, Lahore, was transferred and posted as personal staff officer to the IG. Mahmoodul Hassan Gillani was posted as battalion commander in his place.

SP Karamatullah Malik, head of the Counter-Terrorism Department, Punjab, was transferred and posted as the Hafizabad SP (Investigation).
