CNG stations not to observe weekly holiday

LAHORE:
Compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in Punjab will not observe the weekly holiday under the energy conservation programme of the government from Tuesday, said All Pakistan CNG Association Chairman Ghayas Piracha.

Briefing media at a local hotel on Monday, Piracha warned that the government would be held responsible for the circumstances if it obstructed gas supply to CNG stations. Piracha alleged that the CNG industry, worth billions of rupees, was being ruined under a conspiracy. He stated that the closure of CNG stations had also reduced Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited’s revenues by up to 29 per cent. To a question, he said, “we have conveyed our concerns to the federal and provincial governments, which showed a cold shoulder.”

The CNG stations in other three provinces are functioning after getting stay orders against the weekly closure from the courts, he added. To a query, the chairman said that they were ready to sacrifice their gas share for generation of inexpensive electricity, provided the relevant departments sell electricity at a low tariff.

Piracha also appealed to CNG consumers to ensure support to the All Pakistan CNG Association in this regard.
