The Sindh High Court on Friday restrained the government from finalising seniority list of Deputy Superintendents of Police and put the provincial home secretary, Sindh police chief and others on notice for March 1.
Abdul Fatah Sangri, a DSP in Sindh police moved the court against alleged manipulation of the seniority list and changing his position in the same for a number of times.
The petitioner who joined the provincial police service in 1983 maintained that he was promoted to the rank of DSP in March 2000. A seniority list was issued in 2003 and another in 2008 in which he was placed at serial number 111.
On June 17 2011, Sindh police chief submitted another list to the Chief Secretary Sindh recommending promotions in which his name was at serial number 26. There were some objections after which another list was prepared placing the petitioner at number 139 against which he filed a petition in the high court alleging mala fides in preparation of subsequent lists.
The petitioner prayed to the court to restrain the respondents from finalising the seniority list and sought direction to them to maintain the seniority of the petitioner as per 2008 list. Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Nisar M Sheikh restrained them from finalising the list till the next hearing.
