Four NLC oil tankers torched in Karachi
Protesters from an oil tankers association set the tankers on fire over a contract change.
Unidentified attackers torched four oil trawlers of the National Logistics Cell in the Port Qasim area in Karachi on Friday, Express News has reported.
According to Express News reporter Nadeem Ahmed, the attack was the result of a conflict between the NLC and the All Pakistan Oil Tankers Association over a contract by the National Refinery. The refinery, which earlier supplied oil to the association, has decided to now supply oil to NLC. In retaliation, protesters from the association set fire to the tankers.
Following the attack, traffic was suspended at the National Highway. Police had to open fire to disperse the crowd but protesters responded with fire as well.
DC Malir Shaukat Jokhio is leading negotiations with the protesters, but despite the lapse of two hours, traffic remains suspended and no headway has been made.
