PCB welcomes Isaac’s nomination
Following the Indian and English counterparts, PCB has welcomed the nomination of New Zealand’s Alan Isaac.
KARACHI:
Following the Indian and English counterparts, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt has welcomed the nomination of New Zealand’s Alan Isaac as the next ICC vice-president.
Isaac, the chairman of New Zealand Cricket was nominated by Australia and New Zealand after former Australian premier John Howard failed to get enough backing following objections from six ICC Full Members including the PCB.
While avoiding commenting on the Howard saga, Ijaz Butt said the PCB fully supports the nomination. “We welcome Isaac’s nomination and have already written to the ICC informing them of out consent,” Ijaz Butt told The Express Tribune.
The PCB chief added that Isaac has loads of experience in business and administration which will be useful for his stint with the game’s world governing body.
“He is a professional and holds a very good reputation in the cricketing world, plus he has been chairman of New Zealand Cricket for a couple of years,” he said.
Earlier, the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India also greeted the nomination of Isaac.
However, Ijaz Butt said the PCB did not come under any other board’s influence and took an independent decision.
“It was our own decision. Isaac is running New Zealand Cricket in a befitting manner so we had no hesitancy in giving our approval to the ICC,” said Butt while adding that the board is hoping to see the best from Isaac if he gets the approval from ICC executive board.
With three boards already backing the New Zealander, Isaac needs two more votes to become the ICC vice-president according to the rules. Sri Lanka, South Africa, Bangladesh, West Indies and Zimbabwe are yet to announce their decision.
If Isaac’s nomination is approved by the ICC’s executive board, he would take up the job immediately and will take over as ICC president in 2012.
