Tragedy averted: Militants undone as planted explosives fail to detonate

Police found 10 kilograms of explosives, 2 mortar shells as the detonator failed to explode properly on Saryab road.

QUETTA:
A tragedy was fortunately averted as explosive materials planted in a car on Saryab road failed to detonate.

Police and other security forces were alerted when the detonator failed to ignite 10 kilograms of explosive material and two mortar shells planted in a car parked near the Excise Office.

The small bang prompted a large contingent of police and law enforcement agencies to descend upon the parking lot. They threw a security cordon as investigators looked into the case of the blast. They soon discovered the explosive materials.

Bomb Disposal Squad was called in to defuse the explosive materials. “Police have recovered 10-kg explosives and two mortar shells and impounded the vehicle. An investigation has been launched in this connection,” senior police official Nazeer Kurd told The Express Tribune.

Due to the police cordon, traffic on Saryab Road remained suspended for an hour as investigators collected evidence from the crime scene.
