Promotion of grade 18 teacher on the cards
Departmental Promotion Committee to meet toda.
ISLAMABAD:
The Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) will meet on Thursday (today) to discuss the promotions of federal govt college teachers in grade 18.
Those BPS-18 teachers who have completed either seven years of service in grade 18 or 12 years in grade 17 and grade 18 combined will be promoted, Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Joint Secretary Rafiq Tahir told The Express Tribune.
The promotions would be effective from January 1, 2011 under the Prime Minister’s special package announced for teachers in the capital city on October 8 last year, he added.
He said the process - the third phase of the promotion process started under the time scale - will take a “few days” to complete.
There are 172 college teachers who are working in grade 18 -- 80 women and 92 men.
CADD had promoted BPS-17 teachers on January 4, 2012 but the promotions raised controversy as they were effective from the date of the order rather than January 1, 2011.
Teachers associations said the prime minister had already ordered the teachers’ promotions and approved it on January 1, 2011. So the promotions should also be effective from the same date.
Tahir said that the previous notification was “misprinted” and would be revised with the date of promotion from January 1, 2011. He added that all previous and future promotions under the package would be effective from January 1, 2011. However, he was still uncertain whether incentives would be calculated from the date of promotion or January 1, 2011. He said that CADD would forward the cases to the Attorney General of Pakistan (Revenue) for a decision on the financial matters.
