After thinking about joining PTI, Pakistan Sunni Tehreek swings towards APML

Says party's executive council to decide an alliance with Musharraf's party, APML.

MULTAN:
Weeks after contemplating joining the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Sarwat Ijaz Qadri, chief of Pakistan Sunni Tehreek has seemed to warm up towards the Musharraf led All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).

“Musharraf’s tenure was a golden period in the history of Pakistan,” Qadri issued a potential overture on Wednesday, while addressing the media at a party member’s residence

Praising the former president’s tenure, Qadri added that Pakistan was a prosperous country during Musharraf’s tenure and that the PST might consider an alliance with his party, APML. A final decision in this regard will be taken by PST’s executive council.

Responding to a question regarding a coalition with the PTI, Qadri answered diplomatically, saying PTI chief Imran Khan had raised the same demands as they had, however change of faces was not in Pakistan’s interest. Instead, Qadri said, the people will have to change the system, without getting influenced by histrionics.

He further said that a change of faces would just worsen the situation, adding that people will see a change in system when the PST will come into power.

PST had announced in January that they were contemplating an alliance with the PTI. They even sought PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s guidance in this regard.

Speaking on the recent amendments and resolutions introduced in the parliament, the PST chief said that they had been introduced to safe guard against vested interests and corruption.

Qadri reminded people that the PST would officially launch itself as a political party at a gathering in Lahore on March 23.

With a buzz of general elections in the air, Qadri said, “We demand an independent election commission and no bogus votes in the voters list.”

Commenting on the recent talks between Pakistan and the US on resuming Nato supplies and stopping drone attacks, he said that these matters should be resolved according to the resolutions passed in the Parliament.
