Crippling disease: Fresh polio case detected in Jhang
Three-year-old girl becomes paralysed after doctors injects medicine for pain in the legs.
FAISALABAD:
Due to negligence of anti-polio drive, a 3-year-old girl, Sajida has been diagnosed with polio in Mauza Kholtra, in Jhang district.
Sajida complained of pain in her legs, following which her father, Muhammad Saddique, took her to a doctor who injected her left leg with medicine.
After some time, her leg became paralysed. On being taken to the doctor again, her right leg was injected, thus resulting in eventual paralysis of both legs.
Executive District Officer of Health Dr Khalid Islam, when contacted by The Express Tribune, confirmed the incident.
“I immediately ordered conducting door-to-door survey of the area and it transpired that polio drops were not administered by the concerned staff in three other houses,” Islam said.
“I believe this is criminal negligence, therefore, I immediately initiated disciplinary proceedings against all those who are responsible,” he added.
