Hints complainant had sold her daughter in marriage.
RAHIM YAR KHAN:
Division A police have arrested a man for kidnapping a woman who claims to be his wife. Complainant Salma, a resident of Kot Samba, has accused Liaqat Ali of kidnapping her daughter, Nasreen*,20, six months ago.
Division A investigation officer Akram told The Express Tribune that Ali appeared to be innocent in light of the statements recorded by Ali, Nasreen and Salma. He said Nasreen and Salma had been held at the police station for questioning for a day and later released.
The IO said Ali and Salma were caught from Shaikh Zayed Hospital on Saturday during their visit to consult a doctor. Talking to The Tribune at the police station, Ali rejected that he had kidnapped Salma. He said that he had paid Rs100,000 to Salma to marry her daughter.
Nasreen, who has been living with Ali’s family, told the police that her mother had in fact received Rs100,000. She said Salma had recently contacted the couple and asked Ali for more money. “She has accused Ali of kidnapping me because he has refused to pay her more money,” she said. Nasreen said she had now accepted her marriage with Ali and wanted to live with him.
