Factory Collapse: 2 LDA officers suspended

Deputy Director was suspended for not sealing the building when he was assistant director (Town Planning).

LAHORE: Two officers of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) were suspended by the authority’s Director General Abdul Jabbar Shaheen on Saturday for negligence in the New Town building collapse case. 24 people lost their lives. The LDA Public Relations Officer Shohail Janjua said that Deputy Director (Town Planning) Daud Khan and Deputy Director Tariq Mehmood had been suspended during an emergency meeting called by the director general to discuss the findings of preliminary inquiry into the incident. He said that the director general had also ordered that action be initiated against both officials under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability  Act. According to the PRO, Khan had been suspended for taking back a complaint he had filed with the Sabzazar police station against Orient Pharma in 2008. Deputy Director Tariq Mehmood was suspended for not sealing the building when he was assistant director (Town Planning).
