Desert safari: 80 teams registered for Cholistan jeep rally
Four-day event set to start on February 16.

As many as 80 teams have registered for participation in Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally scheduled to begin on February 16, a meeting held on Saturday to oversee arrangements for the rally was told.
The meeting was attended by Bahawalpur District Coordination Officer Dr Naeem Rauf, MNA Chaudhry Saud Majeed, Muzzammilur Rashid Abbasi and focal person for the rally Shahid Mehmood. Representatives of Pakistan Army, Rangers, Police, Health Department, Rescue and Revenue Department were also present.
The number of participants is expected to be more than 100, the meeting was told.
Punjab Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director Saad S Khan said the 7th Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally will be a four-day event.
On the opening day on February 16, the vehicles registered for the rally will be examined at the inspection centre set up at Sadiq Public School. This will be followed by a ceremony at Noor Mehal at 6pm.
The teams will meet one another and check the track on February 17.
The qualifying round will be run on February 18 at 9am. It will be followed by a cultural show and fireworks.
The main race will kick off in the morning on February 19. The event will conclude with a prize distribution ceremony the same afternoon.
Chief Minister Sahabaz Sharif is expected to attend the concluding ceremony.
Saad Khan said a detailed security plan for the event had been prepared and arrangements will be made in coordination with relevant departments.
