Medicine Disaster: PHC issues notices to health dept
Health policy was formulated after PHC took sou moto notice of substandard medicines being supplied to prisons.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday, issued show cause notices to the authorities at the health department for failing to implement a proposed health policy prepared last year. The health policy was formulated after PHC took sou moto notice of substandard medicines being supplied to prisons across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). K-P IG prison Qudratullah Marwat informed the court that despite clear instructions, the health department failed to conduct laboratory tests for HIV, hepatitis and other diseases at the prisons. Marwat also informed the court that a huge amount in the budget was allocated for prison health services but medicines were not made available.
