Homage to Reshma: Paying tribute to a folk legend
The event featured famous songs of the Punjabi folk singer.

Soon after her voice was discovered by a producer at Radio Pakistan, there was no looking back the living legend Reshma. Songs like Hai O Rabba Nahion Lagda Dil Mera, Sun Charkhe Di Mithi Mithi Cook, Wey Main Chori Chori and many others have left an eternal mark on the folk music of the region and it was to pay a tribute to her an event Sham-i-Tehseen was held by the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Wednesday.
People from all walks of life thronged the auditorium to witness the legend’s performance and to enjoy an evening of Pujabi lyrics with tablas, harmonium and flute.
As the evening began, the hall echoed with Mehdi Hassan’s song Mahivey Leh Ja Apnay which was performed by Muhammad Ali, one of Hassan’s students.
The audience was also mesmerised by a splendid performance by Gulshanara from Faisalabad, who sang Kithay nain na jogi and Lambi Judai, leaving the audience clapping and hooting.
As the evening continued, Reshma’s daughter Shazia came on stage to perform. She appreciated the turnout and asked for her mother’s blessing before beginning her show with Laal meri pat.
“She sounds just like her mother,” exclaimed a lady in the audience as Shazia performed Vey mein chori chori teray naal.
In between the performances, anecdotes of Reshma were also shared by the host, who recalled one of her interviews in which she explained her mother’s death at a very young age as the reason for singing only sad songs.
The creme de la creme of the evening was when the legend finally came onstage to a standing ovation.
After thanking everyone for a wonderful night, she began her performance with Haath Jor Ni Aan Main Teray, followed by her renowned track Lambi Judai, leaving the audience spellbound.
Even though the event took place on a weekday, Reshma’s magnetism managed to pull a large crowd, who waited patiently till the end to see her perform.
