Indus Motors increases car prices
Automobiles to cost Rs23,200 to Rs53,500 more.
KARACHI:
The Indus Motor Company, in barely two months since its last price shift, has once again decided to increase prices on seven of its car models in the range of 23000-50000 per car. Due to the latest price revision, the modest Cuore CL STD will cost an additional Rs23,200 to buyers, while the new Toyota XLI Ecotec saloon is Rs53,500 dearer.
The Senior General Manager Sales and Marketing Ali Asghar Jamali said that the current hike was necessitated because of the depreciation of the Pakistani rupee against the yen and the dollar, which has resulted in higher production costs to the automobile manufacturer.
The 850cc Cuore CL STD will now cost a whopping Rs847,200, while its CNG fitted sister, the Cuore CX ECO-CNG, pricier by Rs32,200, will burn a Rs897,200 hole in customer’s pockets. The Toyota GLI Ecotec and Automatic Transmission models are both pricier by Rs33,500, costing Rs1,732,500 and Rs1,772,500 respectively according to the new rates.
The Toyota XLI Ecotec gets the highest increase in price and now costs Rs1,602,500, up Rs53,500 from Rs1,574,000. The Hilux, which was marked up by Rs50,000 in the December 2011 price revision, has had its price unchanged this time round.
Although automakers claim rising costs of production in the sector as determinant of their pricing decisions, they face public outrage whenever car prices are increased.
