Blast rips through Quetta bazaar, bank guard injured
Up to ten kilograms of explosive material planted in a generator which damaged 20 stores.

A blast ripped through Liaquat Bazaar near Junction square in Quetta late on Tuesday, injuring a security guard and destroying up to 20 stores, Express News reported.
However, no casualties were reported. The guard, Abdul Karim has been transferred to the Civil hospital for medical attention.
Station House Officer Azhar Ali, who is stationed at the City police station, located between 100-150 yards from the blast site, said that there were no people present in the vicinity of the blast owing to extreme cold. Temperatures have dropped to as low as -10 degree Celsius in Quetta in recent days.
DIG Operations Nazir Kurd said that 20 shops had been damaged in the blast while the building housing the bank had been completely destroyed.
Members of the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) told Express News that between eight to ten kilograms of explosive material had been planted in Allied Bank's back up power generator. The branch is located in Liaquat Bazaar, close to Food Point.
Officials said that the area is fairly populated during the day, when it is warmer. However, at night, as temperatures plummet, the area becomes deserted.
The blast destroyed the bank and four shops, alongwith window panes of up to 10 other nearby stores being destroyed by the shockwaves.
The shops destroyed dealt in mobile phones and food stuff.
BDS are scouring the area for other possible planted explosive devices.
