Cricket: ‘Ponting cannot go on forever’
Steve Waugh has warned that Ricky Ponting cannot go on forever and selectors must start planning for his departure.
SYDNEY:
Former Australia captain Steve Waugh has warned that Ricky Ponting cannot go on forever and selectors must start planning for his departure. Ponting, 37, was in sparkling form in the recent Test series against India, scoring 544 runs at an average of just under 109. But Waugh, who played until he was 38, said some hard decisions needed to be made before next year’s Ashes series against England. “You’ve got to look towards where the future is,” said Waugh. “It’s up to Ponting and the selectors but at some stage players have to move on.”
