Family court: PML-N MPA, ex-husband given time to settle claims

Deeba Mirza wants dower money, dowry articles and allowance.

Family Judge Muhammad Ali on Monday fixed February 23 for the reconciliation of claims and counter claims by PML-N MPA Deeba Mirza and her former husband Mirza Abdul Waheed Baig after their divorce.


Counsel for the respondent Advocate Rao Salahuddin submitted comments on behalf of his client that the court had sought in a previous hearing.

The respondent told the court that he married Mirza on August 3, 2003, and paid her the Rs100,000 dower money then. He said soon after Mirza became an MPA, the relationship between them started to deteriorate.

He said that after they got married, he had been living at her house, so none of the dowry articles had been moved from there.


He said that Mirza used his name to obtain a Form-B from NADRA for her daughter from her earlier marriage, though, he said, he was not the child’s father. He said he had also filed a suit against the Nadra deputy managing director in this regard.

He said she admitted their son Mirza Sher Afghan, to an expensive English medium school despite his disapproval. He said he was living hand-to-mouth because of her.

He said he eventually divorced her on December 26, 201, following which d by they filed various petitions against each other in subordinate courts. Mirza requested the court to direct the respondent to give her the dower amount and the dowry articles, or Rs273,000 as an alternative amount for the articles.

She also asked the court to direct Baig to pay a Rs30,000 monthly child support allowance with a 25 per cent increase every year, till their son reached the age of 18. She sought an initial lump sum payment of the allowance from Match 2007 to the present sate.

She also demanded he pay maintenance from January 10, 2007 up to the date they divorced, which amounted to Rs1.2 million. She also demanded Rs72,000 spent by her on medical cost associated with the birth of their son.
