Boulton market shops: SHC seeks report on the ownership of plot
KMC lawyer suspects police have an eye on prized land.
KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court asked for a detailed report on the ownership dispute over a 500 square yard plot located next to Kharadar and Mithadar police stations.
On Thursday, a division bench comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Nisar M Shaikh was hearing a constitutional petition filed by Lala Musa and other owners of small shops situated on a piece of land owned by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (City government).
When the petition came up for hearing, the counsel for the city government, Manzoor Ahmed, submitted that these shops were relocated so that the road could be widened. And they are now located on a plot owned by the city government. He complained that police officials are harassing the petitioners (owners of shops) and have also damaged some of them. “The police either have security concerns or want to encroach upon the land,” he opined.
The statement was seriously contested by Sindh Additional Advocate General Adnan Karim Memon, who said that, “For the first time, a city government lawyer is complaining of harassment by police.”
The statement gives rise to some doubts, he said, asking the court to put off the hearing for a while so that he could check ‘facts’ with the police.
The bench allowed the request and while adjourning the proceedings till February 9, asked the city government lawyer to communicate to the officer concerned to submit a comprehensive report about the title land at the next hearing.
The plot in question is valued at millions of rupees due to its prime location.
