Shahid, Sajjad excel at snooker event

Top-seed Imran bounces back after opening-day shock.

KARACHI:
Defending champion Shahid Aftab and former Asia number two Mohammad Sajjad were in fine form at the National Snooker Championship, registering comprehensive victories on the second day of the event.

Shahid outclassed Javed Ansari 4-0 to secure his second consecutive win in the tournament. The defending champion overcame Ansari 49-46, 56-26, 104-25 and 69-48, scoring an 81-point break in the third frame. Sajjad triumphed 4-0 over Farhan Khan as he also recorded his second successive win. After scoring a break of 97 in first frame, which he won 120-0, Sajjad went on to win the next three frames 65-30, 88-17 and 72-15.


Meanwhile, top-seed Imran Shahzad, who suffered an upset on the opening day, secured a thumping 62-35, 49-41, 60-21 and 63-21 win over Yasir Shahzad.  In contrast, Vishan Gir, who defeated Shahzad a day earlier, was brought down to earth by Zahoor Ahmed, who won 4-2.

In other matches, Abu Saim defeated Rambail Gul, while Shrajeel Mehmood, Asjad Iqbal and Mohammad Asif also earned victories.
