Due to its strong commitment in addressing emergencies and disasters, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has been awarded with the World Volunteering Development Award 2011, said a press release issued by PRCS on Wednesday.

The panel of judges in Geneva, taking into account the outstanding work of the society during the 2010-11 floods, reached the decision to declare PRCS as the winner for its contribution to make a difference in serving humanity.

The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Secretary General Bekele Geleta, in his message to PRCS Chairperson Senator Nilofar Bakhtiar, congratulated the society’s staff and volunteers for making a difference in people’s lives.

PRCS has extensive experience in disaster management. The ratio of staff to volunteers at PRCS is 1-24. Hence volunteers have played a great role in the society’s activities and are involved in all stages.
