Motorcycling: Stoner sets the bar at Sepang

Stoner forced to skip the first day of testing after he hurt his back while warming up prior to the opening session.

SEPANG:
Reigning world champion Casey Stoner shrugged off a back problem to set the fastest time during the second day of MotoGP winter testing at Sepang yesterday. Stoner had been forced to skip the first day of testing after he hurt his back while warming up prior to the opening session. Although his total mileage of 29 laps was less than that of his rivals, Stoner demonstrated his and Honda’s pace by completing a lap in two minutes and 0.895 seconds. That lap-time deposed morning pace-setter Ben Spies of Yamaha by 0.157 seconds. Meanwhile, day one’s fastest rider Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha completed the top-three ahead of Stoner’s Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa.
