In protest: All cable news channels off air in parts of Balochistan
Cable operators say until police provides them security, they will follow BSO’s demand to suspend transmission.
QUETTA:
A student organisation in Balochistan followed through on its word as transmission of private television channels, particularly news ones, has been suspended in parts of Balochistan.
The Baloch Student Organisation (BSO-Mohyuddin) had earlier threatened that it will suspend transmission of private television channels across the province to protest ‘failure to properly highlight the plight of the people’.
On Wednesday, transmission of all private television channels was suspended in provincial capital Quetta and Baloch-dominated areas, including Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar and Naushki.
“We suspended transmission because our lives are insecure,” Babrak, president of a cable operators association, told The Express Tribune. “I don’t know how long the protest will last but we will not restore transmission until police provides us security.”
