Exhibition: The ‘dawn’ of a new age
Spotlighting six new artists.
An exhibition promoting the young and talented Pakistani artists through hand painted ceilings, wooden lattice works, artworks and tapestries opens at the Serena Hotel today (Wednesday), according to a press release issued by the hotel.
The first in a series of similar exhibitions, “Dawn of Expression” exhibits the work of up-and-coming contemporary printmakers and sculptors. The show celebrates and highlights the power of artistic expression and positive change as narrated by the artists Mohsin Shafi, Atif Khan, Ayub Wali, Zaira Ahmad Zaka, Rabeya Jalil and Imran Mudassar. The pieces powerfully express a search for identity, either as a national one or individualistic. The collection explores anomalies in the social and political systems, portraying them using whimsy, satire or sobriety.
Curated by University of Pennsylvania International Relations and Fine Arts degree holder Zahra Khan, currently working at the Roland Feldman Gallery in New York, she has put together a stunning representation of six emerging artists. “The work of many young Pakistani artists today reflects their undeniable curiosity, creativity and resilience, while simultaneously representing a society in flux,” Khan says of the collection.
The exhibit will continue until February 8 from 11am to 7pm.
