Cricket: Zimbabwe dismissed twice in a day
Tourists lose one-off Test to New Zealand by innings and 301 runs.
NAPIER:
New Zealand posted their biggest Test victory when they demolished Zimbabwe by an innings and 301 runs on the third day of their one-off match.
After starting the day at 392 for five, New Zealand added 103, giving Bradley-John Watling time to notch his maiden Test century before declaring at 495 for seven.
Chris Martin then led the bowling effort, routing Zimbabwe twice in the day — first for the tourists’ lowest Test innings of 51 followed by 143 in the second.
Martin hails memorable win
Martin revealed that the result was better than what New Zealand had hoped for.
“I can’t recall a Test like that for New Zealand,” said Martin. “We bowled Bangladesh out twice in a day. It’s something to savour. You’d expect a Test side to have one bad innings and then be more competitive in the second.”
