Despite the ‘historic’ rally in Sukkur, it seems as though there was no love lost between MQM and Sindhi nationalists. Only time will tell whether MQM’s supporters in Sukkur will actually manifest their strength in the national or provincial assemblies.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Jeay Sindh Tehreek chairman Dr Safdar Sarki said that the MQM should make its agenda clear for the rights of Sindh and Sindhis.
“The recent bill tabled by the MQM discloses its intention. If they (MQM) think themselves as genuine Sindhis, they should act and fight for the province where they live.”
Pointing to last year’s clash with PPP leader Zulfiqar Mirza, the chairman said the party’s conflict with one person led to the MQM demanding a separate province for Urdu-speaking people.
“It shows how they are sincere with Sindh. The party had done nothing for Sindhis and one can see a clear difference between the development of Karachi and the rest of the province. One can also see a clear difference how this party has ignored areas where Sindhis are living such as Lyari, Malir and Gaddap,” Sarki said.
Meanwhile, Awami Tehreek president Ayaz Latif Palijo also expressed his scepticism about MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s fear of Sindhi nationalists.
“Why has Altaf Hussain talked against nationalists? Is he afraid of them? The Sindhi nationalists will fail, if Altaf Hussain and his party stop conspiracies against Sindh. If he really wants a prosperous Sindh, he should first stop extortions in Karachi and take a step for deweaponisation in Karachi,” said Palijo.
Bashir Khan Qureshi, chairman of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), while speaking to The Express Tribune said the province would support a call for a strike today (Saturday).

@Ali S: Gimme 200 Billion rupee, i will change the whole Pakistan. BTW, the development of karachi of initiated by Naimat-ullah, but no advertising campaign run for him.
Ali is right they did bring improvement during their rule.
The criticism against MQM is understandable, but the fact remains that when they were the de facto government of Karachi under Musharraf this city saw its biggest growth in many decades. Meanwhile what has PPP done for its strongholds of interior Sindh in over 30 years besides sitting cozily in the laps of feudals who make sure they're re-elected over and over again? And is it any coincidence that Lyari, a PPP stronghold, is one of the most crime-infested, underdeveloped areas of Karachi?
