Daily wages: Protest against GCUF policy

The university had earlier announced to re-employ 100 of the daily-wage basis employees and relieved 47 from service.

FAISALABAD:
Dozens of Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) employees protested against the university’s refusal to refresh contracts of over 140 employees whose contracts had expired recently. The university had earlier announced to re-employ 100 of the daily-wage basis employees and relieved 47 from service. The employees were hired on a contract four years ago. A protester, Muhammad Jamil, said the university had relieved all of the contractual employees from service. “There is no provision in GCUF’s budget this year for hiring people on a daily-wage basis,” he said. He complained that the administration had not sent any notice to the employees before terminating their contract.
