5 security men killed, 1 missing in Sui ambush

CM meets Turkish delegation, blames foreign elements for insurgency.

QUETTA:

Five security personnel were killed while one went missing when a group of armed men ambushed a security check post in the Sui area of Dera Bugti in the early hours of Thursday.

The banned outfit Baloch Republican Army (BRA) claimed responsibility for the deadly strike. According to official sources, a group of militants armed with sophisticated weapons attacked the check post set up by forces in Sui tehsil.

As a result of indiscriminate firing, five security men were killed on the spot. A heavy contingent of security forces rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area.

The deceased were identified as Naek Sher Ali, Sepoy Abdul Raoof, Mohammad Abid and Ghulam Hyder, while Achar Khan is reported missing.

Speaking to local newsmen from an unspecified location, the Baloch Republican Army (BRA) spokesman, Sarbaz Baloch, claimed that “BRA’s armed men completely destroyed the check post in the Kachhi Canal area of Sui, a 550 kilometre long irrigation channel from Taunsa Barrage to Balochistan, killing at least 10 security personnel. The attackers also took away their weapons and kidnapped a security man.”

Turkish delegation

Talking to a delegation of the Pak-Turk CAQ Educational Foundation and the Pak-Turk Businessmen Association, Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani said foreigners are using the services of local people to destabilise the situation.

He said such tactics are against the established Baloch tradition and customs as they have been living together for decades.

The CM was informed that Turkey wanted to play a major role in improving the educational system, particularly imparting quality education in Balochistan.
