Anti-proliferation: Experts call for civil nuclear cooperation
Discussion titled ‘Pakistan-India: A Security Route to Cooperation’

Indian and Pakistani researchers on Thursday urged for civil nuclear cooperation between the rival neighbours for energy repurposing during a discussion organised by Strategic Technology Resources (STR).
Experts at the discussion titled ‘Pakistan-India: A Security Route to Cooperation’ pointed out that without normalisation of their relations, the dream of nuclear cooperation between the two countries would remain unrealised.
Mushahid Hussain Syed when opening the discussion, said that Pakistan made a strategic mistake by not strongly objecting to the India-US nuclear deal but also felt that it (deal) would not last long, reminding the participants of the now well-documented case of the Indian government bribing legislators to pass the deal.
Subrata Ghoshroy believed that civil nuclear cooperation between Pakistan and India was possible as long as it was mutually beneficial. He also spoke of the Indo-US nuclear deal which he felt had less of an energy-driven incentive and was more of a strategic move for both countries. He saw the deal as a triumph of the business and Jewish lobbies in Washington.
