Ban on aging commercial vehicles

Bus stands which obstruct traffic to be vacated.

PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Transportation Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain has directed the traffic police to ban commercial vehicles which have completed their life span.

The minister issued these directives while presiding over a high-level meeting of the transport department to streamline vehicular traffic in Peshawar city.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport, Commissioner Peshawar Tariq Jamil, DIG Traffic Mazhar.

The department is seriously considering a ban on individual permits. In future, route permits will be given to transport companies to make it easier to enforce fares decided by the government. He said bus stands which obstruct traffic should be vacated.

All permits issued during the ban would be considered illegal and action will be initiated against officials for violation. The minister said route permits of transporters who have not paid outstanding fees should be cancelled and they should be blacklisted.
