PESHAWAR: Gunmen shot dead the head of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl’s Landi Kotal chapter in Peshawar’s Shahi Bagh area, police said on Wednesday. Gul Rehman Afridi was returning home from an evening walk when motorcyclists intercepted him and opened indiscriminate fire, DSP Tariq Habib told The Express Tribune. Some children who were playing in a nearby park noted down the motorcycle’s registration number, the DSP said. He said that Afridi received three bullets, two in his chest and one in his head. An FIR has been registered against unidentified men and investigation opened, he added. This is the second attack on a JUI-F leader this month. On January 2, a local leader was killed and his driver was seriously injured when attackers opened fire on their vehicle in Lakki.
