LAHORE:

Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Munir Ahmed on Wednesday sent an accused on probation for one year under Section-5 of the Probation of Offenders Ordinance 1960 for carrying 110 grams of heroin.

The judge sent Asif Butt on probation for one year on furnishing surety bonds for Rs50,000.

According to the prosecution, Shadbagh police had arrested Butt on February 24, 2011 and recovered 110 grams of heroin from him.

They also registered a case against him under Section 9-B of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act (CNSA). On Wednesday, the accused confessed to the crime.

He, however, requested the judge to pardon him stating that he had never been convicted of any crime before. Observing the nature of the offense and past record of the offender, the judge sent him on probation for one year.

The judge observed that if the accused repeated the offence or violated the terms and conditions of his probation, he will be brought before the court by the Probation Officer and punished for the offence.
