Tennis: Wozniacki must be aggressive: Hingis

The Dane, who – like Hingis – relies more on intelligent shot-making and court craft than force.

MELBOURNE:
Caroline Wozniacki must grit her teeth and go toe-to-toe with the power players of women’s tennis because they are not going away anytime soon, according to former world number one Martina Hingis. Wozniacki was bundled out of the Australian Open by champion Kim Clijsters in the quarter-finals recently. The Dane, who – like Hingis – relies more on intelligent shot-making and court craft than force, has struggled to deal with the power of players like Clijsters, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. “You just cannot let yourself get pushed back in those

situations,” said Hingis. “Wozniacki has to make an effort to move in and step forward, otherwise there will always be somebody coming on top of her at a grand slam.”
