NPF Land Scam: Anjum Aqeel’s bail plea rejected
Aqeel was arrested on December 3 last year when his pre-arrest bail was rejected by the SJC.
RAWALPINDI:
The special judge (central) (SJC) for the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) turned down the bail plea of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Anjum Aqeel Khan on Tuesday.
SJC Khalid Shabir rejected the MNA’s arguments, who, through his lawyer Zafar Ali Shah, had asked for post-arrest bail on medical grounds.
To substantiate the medical grounds for bail, Dr Akhtar Ali, a cardiologist at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) appeared in court and explained the medical condition of the accused MNA. In his statement, the doctor reportedly informed the court that Aqeel was under treatment for two blocked hear vessels.
Aqeel was arrested on December 3 last year when his pre-arrest bail was rejected by the SJC. He was accused of refusing to hand land over to the National Police Foundation under an agreement signed 10 years ago despite receiving payment for it, leading to a loss of Rs5.75 billion to the exchequer.
