Drug abuse: Govt mulling volunteer teams

The government is considering a proposal to form a team of volunteers for carrying out an awareness raising campaign on drug abuse. These volunteers will be inducted from various education institutes of the country. The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) will organise a three-day training course for them at the ANF academy, Islamabad. The training will also be attended by selected officials of the Police Department. These observations were made by Federal Secretary (Narcotics Control) Zafar Abbas Lak at an advocacy workshop on the co-relation between drug abuse and domestic violence. The workshop was organised jointly by the United Nations Office of Project Services and federal government’s Gender Justice and Protection Project. The participants were briefed about the recommendations of a research study on domestic violence.
