Police arrests man claiming to be Mohammed Asif's cousin

Gujjar was arrested on charges of assault and robbery.

LAHORE:
The Crime Investigation Agency has recovered a police uniform and a pistol from a person claiming to be banned cricketer Mohammed Asif’s relative.

According to officials at Shalimar Police, a case has been registered against Khalid Gujjar for storming into Mohammed Majeed’s house, disguised as a police official. Gujjar allegedly tortured Majeed and stole Rs30,000 from him.

Five of his accomplices, including a woman called Razia escaped from the scene. Majeed had the case moved to the CIA after waiting for a month.

Khalid, who is reportedly a middle school dropout, claimed to be a journalist. He has two wives and seven children and was recently living in Rachna Town in a rented house.

“Look, I am a reporter of daily Muqabla and Falak and a native of Maachekay and a second cousin of cricketer Mohammed Asif. However we are not in contact lately as they are rich and we are poor,” he said.

The CIA eventually arrested Gujjar after the motorcycle he had used in the assault was traced down with the help of neighbours. According to police, he had a criminal record of mobile snatching and two cases had been registered against him in Tibbi and Yakki police stations.

Gujjar admitted that he went to Majeed’s house in Aalia Town on Razia’s request. “She asked me that she wanted to get rid of a blackmailer. We made a plan, and after sending her to Majeed’s house, I reached the scene with my camera and took pictures of both in a compromising position, for which they are trying to punish me.”

Investigation Officer Muhammad Ismail said that they have taken Gujjar in judicial remand.
