Chinese Ambassador Liu Jian shares his 'dream of Pakistan'

How I dream of Pakistan depends on how the youth of the country plan to take it forward, says Liu Jian.

LAHORE:
Entrusting his dream of Pakistan on the nimble shoulders of the youth of the country, China's Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian said on Tuesday that there was room to broaden horizons and cooperation in the field of education.

He was addressing students at the inauguration of a new auditorium at the Hajvery University campus here on Tuesday.

Jian said the future leaders will need to have the ability to look beyond present.

“Very soon the youth will have to take the lead in running the country - for which it must be prepared,” he said.

Sharing his views on “How I dream of Pakistan,” the theme for the upcoming TEDx talks which are to be held at the Hajvery University, Ambassador Jian said Pakistan has a very special place in his heart.

However he said it was very difficult for a foreign ambassador to speak on how he dreamt of a host country. “The past 19 months of my ambassadorship has seen growing friendship between the two countries,” said the Ambassador.

“How I dream of Pakistan depends on how the youth of the country plan to take it forward,” he said adding his desire to see a strong and prosperous Pakistan in the coming days.

Pakistan 'in the eye of the storm'

With Pakistan engaged in the war against terrorism, Ambassador Jian said Pakistani people had faced death in result.

The Ambassador also said China wants the relationship between Pakistan and America to improve. “We hope the relations between the two countries get better,” Jian said.

Pakistan-China relationship

Calling Pakistan the most trustworthy friend, he said Pakistan had always extended its support to China during critical times.

Shedding light on the current progress of his country, Ambassador Jian said China had always given high priority to economic development with the past decade reflecting a 10.5% growth in its economy.

With social services thriving in the country, the Ambassador said, “China has always committed itself to an all round progress.” He termed social harmony and stability as pre-requisites for the development of any society.

With 2011 marking 60 years of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and China, the Ambassador said they looked forward to long lasting friendly ties between the two countries.

“Because of its geo-strategic position, Pakistan has been declared the fulcrum of Asia,” said the Ambassador.
