Outside the ring: Amir Khan readies himself for engagement

1,000 guests expected to show up at the grand £150,000 engagement party.

British boxing sensation Amir Khan has announced that he will be getting engaged to Pakistani-American Faryal Makhdoom on January 29, The Sun reported Monday.

In an interview with the daily, Khan revealed that he had spent £100,000 on a diamond-studded ring that he will exchange with fiancée Faryal, 20, at the Bolton Wanderer’s Reebok Stadium.

The 25-year-old boxer further revealed that about 1,000 guests are expected to show up at the grand £150,000 engagement party.

Khan said:

A lot of girls back home have said to me, 'Your girl is beautiful' — and that's great because people can be so jealous. But Faryal is so humble. Anybody who meets her is going to fall in love with her. She's got no edge, she's just a terrific person.

Faryal, a New Yorker, said that her parents had already started treating Khan as their son and that the couple had braced for a new life.

The bride-to-be's father, Shaukat and mother Zia gifted the couple a BMW 750Li when they announced the engagement.

Faryal revealed that her college mates were surprised when they got to know that she was dating Khan. She further said that she would never want to see Khan boxing.
I never want to watch him fight live. I just couldn't because I wouldn't want to see him get hurt. After his last fight I started crying when I saw him. I just can't bear to see him like that and I don't think I ever will.
