Two policemen injured in Nowshera blast
The roadside bomb, believed to be a remote-controlled device, targeted a police mobile.
PESHAWAR:
Two policemen were injured on Monday when a roadside bomb, targeting a police mobile, went off in Azakhel area of Nowshera district.
Police said the bomb, weighing three kilogrammes, was hidden in rocks placed near a bridge on the GT Road. The bomb exploded when a police mobile reached the site.
“The police mobiles were on a routine patrol from Nowshera to Pabbi when the attack occurred at about 4:30pm. It was a remote-controlled bomb, placed under some rocks along the road,” DSP Shahjehan Khan told The Express Tribune.
He said an ASI and a constable were injured while the vehicle was partially damaged.
Another police official said that the injured policemen have been taken to Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital.
LRH Medical Superintendent Dr Rahim Jan Afridi told The Express Tribune that Riaz, 32, and Rizwan, 38, had been admitted and their injuries were minor.
“Riaz was injured by ball bearings in the chest while Rizwan was wounded in his left leg. But both of them are in a stable condition and will soon be discharged,” he said.
The area was immediately cordoned off but so far arrests have been made.
