Integrity of PTI leaders attracting the youth: Hashmi

The rebel politician equates his own questioning of authority to the mood of PTI’s youth.

MULTAN:
The integrity of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s leaders is compelling the people to come forward and support this party, says Javed Hashmi.

In an exclusive chat with The Express Tribune, Hashmi, who quit his years-long association with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz to join PTI, said that the people have taken the decision for the sake of their country’s welfare.

When asked about the huge turnouts at PTI’s rallies, the veteran politician said that no coercion is used in doing so and no incentives are ever promised to entice them to attend the rallies. “They come because they feel attracted to our party’s comprehensive manifesto,” he explained.

Hashmi equated his own questioning of authority to the mood of the party’s youth. “I want the country’s youth to become a part of the glorious rebellion - the fight against corruption and status quo,” he added.

“I mutinied not only against the corrupt political system but also against the dictators in different periods of our history. My principles remain unvarying,” he said. “Politicians desire status quo in the system. Unfortunately for them, I stand in their way,” said Hashmi.

When asked to comment on the ongoing NRO case and the developments surrounding it, Hashmi made it clear that the money Pakistani politicians stashed in Swiss banks is the property of Pakistani people and they have the right to reclaim it.

When pressed to reflect on the future of party politics in the country, Hashmi said that no political party is keen to address the frustration and grievances of the youth. “They are disillusioned with major parties, and have become our (PTI’s) asset. That is why, one sees the extraordinary number of Imran Khan’s supporters among the youth,” added Hashmi.
